What is car attachment?
You put your commercially registered car on regular duty with one organisation and get a fixed monthly amount. You drive it, or your driver does. The work is the same most days: officers, employees or executives, on set routes and set hours. You stop chasing one booking after another.
Why do offices hire instead of buying? Owning cars costs a lot, and government offices have strict limits on buying them. Central offices hire through the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) under "Monthly Basis Cab & Taxi Hiring Services". MNCs and IT companies hand employee transport to vendors, and those vendors attach cars from owner-drivers. Private companies hire directly or through a local operator.

Can my car be attached? Quick check
- Commercial registration and permit: yellow plate, or green for EVs. A white plate private car cannot legally be attached.
- Valid commercial insurance, fitness certificate and PUC.
- An AIS-140 GPS device with an emergency button. Public service vehicles must have one.
- A driver with a licence and police verification. That can be you.
- A clean car in good shape, with AC that works. Newer cars get more offers.

What decides your income?
Monthly contracts are sold as a package of so many km and so many hours. The contract amount is not your income. Fuel, EMI, insurance, servicing, driver salary (if you keep a driver) and any vendor margin come out of it first. A car with no loan, driven by the owner, keeps far more than the same car with a big EMI.

Stay safe: red flags before you attach your car
Attachment frauds do happen. In Bengaluru in 2021, a travel company leased about 150 cars and paid rent for a few months. Then it shut down and sold the cars with fake papers.
Walk away if:
- The agent will not name the company or office where your car will work.
- There is no written agreement, or you are rushed to sign.
- You are asked to hand over the car and original documents and stay away.
- Someone promises a huge guaranteed income but won't tell you the km, hours or who pays for fuel.
- They want a big fee or deposit before you have seen any contract.

What does 'attach car with company' mean?
You put your commercial car on regular duty with a company, government office or MNC and get a fixed amount every month. You drive it yourself or keep a driver. No more hunting for single bookings.
Can I attach my private white plate car?
No. Under the Motor Vehicles Act, a car used for hire needs commercial (yellow plate) registration and a permit. Private insurance also won't pay if something happens on hire duty. You can convert the car to commercial through VAHAN or your RTO.
How much can I earn by attaching my car?

Which cars are in demand for attachment?
Sedans get the most work: Dzire, Aura, Amaze. After that come Ertiga, Innova and Innova Crysta. Government offices and MNCs want newer cars, while private companies are less strict about age. More MNCs now ask for electric cars too.
